Labyrinths are ancient shapes that connect many lineages of people across the globe. In this labyrinth creation workshop, we will start indoors with simple hand-drawn finger labyrinths to study the basic principles and then head outdoors to make larger scale labyrinths in the snow with our boots or snowshoes. The goal is to create a large-scale snow labyrinth adjacent to the Northwoods Community Garden to be celebrated during the Winter Solstice Bonfire and Celebration. Labyrinths ask us to think about our environment on a different scale, and to slow down while doing it. These ancient shapes invite visitors who might typically take the most linear efficient path, to take the path of contemplation and see how that impacts their state of being. Plan to be outdoors for at least 90 minutes and bring snow boots or snowshoes. In case of no/poor snow, labyrinths will be constructed with ropes on the ground.
